Following an extensive audit process by the National Association of Testing Authority (NATA), GeoGAS (RPM’s gas testing division) has successfully expanded the scope of its NATA accreditation to include in-house testing methods for Proximate Analysis and Relative Density Testing of coal samples undergoing gas content testing.
The proximate analysis methodology developed by GeoGAS is novel, effective and efficient and allows the laboratory to analyse and report samples for ash, volatile matter and moisture in significantly shorter time frames than traditional methods. The independent certification by NATA is highly respected within the industry with the audit process of GeoGAS encompassing laboratory facilities, personnel and testing methodologies.
Relative density and ash determination is essential to producing reliable and standardised gas content results. Determining a core sample’s relative density and ash properties allows the laboratory measured gas contents to be corrected or adjusted to the seam ash, allowing for more accurate and timely application by the end user. Further to this, GeoGAS is able to eliminate the effects of sampling bias in the laboratory using these relative density and ash measurements. GeoGAS’s superior Proximate Analysis and Relative Density Testing methodologies, combined with highly trained laboratory personnel produce a minimal and acceptable reproducibility error of less than 2.5% for a typical sample.
